Union
by peter flynn

[meanings] [downloads]

Union is a song explaining the ideology, loyalties, hopes and dreams of the band, union.

Thought alot about you today
Thought about how you took my guilt away

Thought about the money in my bank
Thought about the petrol in my tank

Thought about the army
I thought about the rails

Thought about how silence can be
more deafening than the details

And I, I am grateful to you
I have joined the union, now
I am grateful to you,
I have joined the union, now

But now I sit here worrying about me
How can I expect to tell them if I also can not see

So I, I am praying to you
that they will join the union, now
I am grateful to you
I have joined the union
'cos you love me
And you love them too,
you love them too

I thought about our country and all its plans
Don't know if I should laugh or cry or.........
I asked you about your plans
If they would only listen we would have real...

Freedom, peace and recognition,
love for others and one religion
Us following you, I know its true

This song was written before we named the band and it explains where we stand. I wrote "Union" to Jesus Christ.

I thought alot about You today, thought about how You took my guilt away.... I am born again in Jesus Christ and thus I no longer feel guilty for the times that I stepped out of line with God's laws (sinned).

Thought about the money in my bank, thought about the petrol in my tank ......... This song was written when I had absolutely no money and the price of petrol kept on going up. I was so worried about how I was going to get by and how my family was going to get by.

I was reminded that God promises "ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door will be open unto you everytime." I stopped worrying.

Thought about the army I thought about the rails, I was thinking about how it is possible that so many weapons where stolen from the SA army, and trucks and how the entire railway system in Cape Town could go on strike and the repurcussions for workers who commute by train each day and I thought about how silence can be more defeaning than the details, I thought about how our government's silence is so terrifying (why don't they say something, do something, change something.......)

And I am grateful to You, I am grateful to Jesus, I have joined the union now, "we live in union with the true God, in union with His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 5 v 20.)

But now I sit here worrying about me, there I was worrying about myself, how can I expect to tell them (everyone else) if I also can not see? It bothered me that I still had so many questions, issues etc. How could I possibly tell others about Jesus?

So I am praying to You that they will join the union now, so instead I put the the issue in God's hands and asked Him to guide me each day. For that reason, I am grateful to You I have joined the union 'cos You love me and You love them (everybody else) too, I know you do. God loves everybody regardless of colour, gender, social status, wealth or background.

Thought about our country and all its plans, don't know if I should laugh or cry or ..... yes I think our government is a joke, but only in an absolute sense. I think most governements are a joke, we're doing okay compared to the rest of Africa for instance.

I spoke to You about Your plans, I asked God what He would do, He said He would guide us at each step as "a lamp unto our feet" if we let Him. If they would only listen we would have real freedom peace and recognition, love for others and one religion, us looking to You, I know its true ...... The problem is that no one is listening. A

nd so the whole band has agreed that we will join the union, we are grateful to You, we have joined the union. That is why we have taken the name "union," Jesus is our salvation and the Holy Spirit of God is our source of energy, love (for one another and others) and our source of hope.

We are constantly praying that every person will join the union, take the decision to follow Christ. We believe that in Him lies all the solutions because we were designed for His service. "Jesus is the way, the truth and the life...."

We also know that this is each individual's personal choice and thus we refuse to force this message (or any other message for that matter) down people's throats.
